On the 28th May 1955 the large concrete framework was delivered and within a few days was erected. Progress was very slow thereafter. In the late 50's I can remember many Saturday mornings my father and I taking wheel barrows full of stones from our garden and pouring them into the trench we dug for the footings of the main hall walls. Most Saturdays there would be a small band of men from the Norman Rd estate digging, concreting and wall building. Progress was very slow due to lack of funds and man power.
