"Last of The Debs" 1958

Left to Right. Joyce Clout, Queenie Palfrey Lily Woodberry, Edith Williams.1958 was the last year that the debutants were presented to the queen at court. So to be topical that was the chosen theme. The “Sack Dresses” were high fashion that year and were made from Tate & Llyle sugar sacks decorated with curtain fringe. The hats were an assortment of lamps shades and gardening wear. We had to use a wheel chair (supplied by Sister Toughue) as Lily Woodberry had just had an operation on her leg and was unable to walk. This accentuated the Very Last of The Deb’s.
